Leadership coaching: A closer look
Leadership coaching is intended for professionals who want to take proactive control over the future of their own lives and that of their organizations. Coaching is for individuals and teams who are committed to setting and accomplishing goals, who are eager to grow, and who are brave enough to take some risks along the way, knowing that’s the surest way to big results.
A coach is the sparring partner for these ambitious clients. A coach is an objective collaborator who brings evidence-based knowledge, a fresh perspective, and network-insights to tackle your challenges. A coach helps you to understand what is in your control and what is not, and how to focus your energy on where it matters most. This can be on any number of levels; eg., communication, inter-personal dynamics, strategy, company culture, stress/motivation challenges, etc.
Ilka von Platen, founding coach at Collective Intent, is an organizational psychologist. What does that mean? She uses the principles of psychology to understand how humans behave and interact within the work context.
She consults in
organizational development,
leadership and team development,
OKR implementation, and
change management.
Combined, this means she brings psychological knowledge, a business consultant’s insights, together with coaching techniques to her coaching programs. You will not be passively listened to with pure, “You’re doing great!” responses. When relevant, clients are challenged to push themselves further and explore new options.
Please be aware that in most countries, the term “coach” is still not regulated. This means the experience and training of “coaches” ranges drastically: literally anyone can call themselves a “coach.” It would serve you well to consider the background of any coach you are interested in working with to ensure the approach and experience being offered aligns with what you are looking for.
Our Approach
By definition, our approach to coaching is collaborative. Before the coaching can begin, a free “discovery session” is necessary to discuss what support you are looking for, what commitments you can provide to the program, and whether Ilka can deliver on these expectations.
The Agreement:
The trust-based and strictly confidential relationship officially begins with a contract outlying the expectations on both parties’ participation: coach and client.
Collective Intent is committed to delivering value. The above-mentioned contract does not bind the client to any service you no longer deem valuable or necessary.
coaching ASSESSMENTS:
For the purpose of bench-marking and self-reflection, a series of formal and informal assessments are used throughout the coaching program.
homework and review:
To keep the development process ongoing, you will regularly receive homework to support in accomplishing your goals. The homework results are reviewed together to celebrate accomplishments, reflect on the lessons learned, and provide feedback from an outsider’s perspective.
No bullshit:
Coaching requires honesty from both parties involved. There is no space for complaining, excuses, or false flattery. We will on concrete topics and try to find the best solution. We invite risk-taking, encourage stretch goals, and welcome mistakes. What we don’t accept is dodging responsibility or ignoring learning opportunities.
care-factor
Collective Intent wants leaders to find joy in optimizing their leadership trifecta: leading self, others, and business. You’ll feel the care-factor as we champion you on your journey!
